As well as containing over 400 lakes, Turkey’s coastline borders four different seas and measures over 8,333 km.
The Aegean Sea Coast is made up of beautiful white-sand beaches and its north is home to one of Turkey’s most significant yachting centres. The north of the Aegean Sea Cost also boasts wide boulevards, an abundance of modern boutiques, old churches and mosques, an urban atmosphere akin to Mediterranean Europe and the architectural thrill of its time-honoured red-tiled roofs. In the summertime, the south Aegean Coast is the place to go for open air plays and concerts – most notably at the old Greek theatre in Ephesus – and it is also home to the ruins of Troy, which are estimated to date back some 3,000 years.
Marmara is a vibrant region comprising of cities teeming with vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. Steeped in history and renowned for carpets and glazed tiles, the Marmara Sea’s shores are full of glistening beaches and many different holiday resorts, including Yalova which is well-known for its thermal springs.
On the Mediterranean Coast, there remain hallmarks of ancient Turkey to go with its modern features. Bustling resort towns like Antalya and Marmaris can be found on the same shoreline and quiet fishing villages, hamlets, beach and virgin forest. A holiday rental here caters to all tastes.
